FOOD
ScuttleBugs Takes Enormous Pride In Our Menus.
After all, healthy food fuels the body and mind to grow and learn. We serve nutritionally balanced meals, made with wholesome ingredients, that have roots in a variety of cultures. Especially in this day and age, we are firm believers that kids should be exposed to, and willing to try, a selection of global cuisine.
Menus at Scuttlebugs Child Care Center Are Healthy, Natural and Prepared On Site
Good food preparation is essential to great meals, and not something we want to risk to outsourcing. Our cooks prepare the delicious, healthy food on-site, allowing for better quality control of the ingredients that go into them, and ultimately, our children's bodies. We serve lots of fresh fruit and veggie.
Food groups and serving portions are as per State Requirements, Department of Health guidelines, and Servsafe standards.
ScuttleBugs Boulder participates in the "Farm to ECE" program and get lots of fresh veggies from Boulder County Farmers Market - which Chef Laura uses to prepare her fantastic dishes. See some of them here!
ScuttleBugs is a NUT-FREE facility, and because we don’t want to add more sugar to our kid's diets, we only serve milk and water.
Meals Are Also Part of the Curriculum (Oh! And They’re Fun Too!)
Children are often involved in preparing and enjoying snacks and seasonal dishes as part of our planned activity program. They are taught the benefits of a balanced diet, how to store, prepare, serve, and dispose of food hygienically and in an environmentally friendly manner. Plus we actively encourage our little chefs to be just as creative during these lessons too!
Meal times are treated as social occasions with a family style dining ambiance. The staff eat with the children during meal times to interact with them, provide assistance where needed, and set a good example of proper table manners. Self-help skills are encouraged in our Preschool programs.
Everyone is invited to share their culture through food related activities with the kids, or by suggesting their family favorite recipes for our menu.
