At ScuttleBugs we are firm believers and strongly advocate the importance of children learning through play. Being Reggio inspired this is facilitated via topics garnered from the children themselves, which results in our kiddo’s being able to relate to the subject matter and acquiring a myriad of skills without even realizing it! We incorporate the following activities daily to encourage proficiency of cognitive, fine and gross motor, literacy (namely vocabulary), basic math concepts and social skills.
Extracurricular Activities at ScuttleBugs
In addition to the regular Reggio Emilia inspired curriculum, ScuttleBugs offers numerous extracurricular activities that take place each week in the gym. Sign up sheets are on our bulletin board in the front lobby. It is important to remember that tuition fees for extracurricular activities are paid directly to the outside organization and not to ScuttleBugs.
Scaffolding in ECE
A well-known concept in Early Childhood Education called the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) is defined as the difference between what a young learner can do on their own without any assistance versus what they cannot do on their own and require the assistance of an adult (parent or teacher). Learning Through Songs
Songs are fun and educational. I have worked with almost every age group and singing songs is always a quick way to captivate them and grab their attention. In our Pre-K class we put everything into songs; The days of the week, Months of the year, The planets, the sounds of each letter, and The Continents. We even sing songs for every holiday to keep things exciting and festive!

Bee Happy
We had a week in May when we learned a great deal about BEES!! We learned how bees retrieve nectar, transfer nectar, and turn nectar into a golden liquid.
We learned that not all bees have the same job but work together to create a beautiful liquid that we humans add to our tea, use to help heal wounds, help our digestive system, and soothe our throat. And we learned that that beautiful Golden liquid is called HONEY!
