Pets and Kids: a few benefits you maybe did not know. Caring for a pet teaches children responsibility, provides children with exposure to creatures beyond human beings, and has shown to benefit a child’s health and social and cognitive skills. This is why we have added 4 guinea pig friends to the ScuttleBugs family!
How to Calm a Crying Baby in Seconds – “The Hold”
Let’s face it, those with infants have all been there – the sleep deprived nights, the constant feeding, and the inexplicable crying.
Affectionately referred to as the “Darkness” by my wife, we struggle through it as best we can.
For those currently wading through this treacle of a time period (molasses for those non Aussies), I have a ninja move that just may help.
It’s called “The Hold”, and it’s been used by Dr. Robert Hamilton in his Santa Monica pediatric clinic PACIFIC OCEAN PEDIATRICS for over a quarter of a century.
Nature Day & Open House
Join our Open house, on the week of World Children’s Day and World Environment Day, to see with your own eyes how and what our little ones learn every day at ScuttleBugs! We are now enrolling for the next school year, with limited availability in our Preschool and PreK Kindergarten Readiness programs. Graduation always creates openings in our younger classes, and we look forward to collaborating with you in bringing our families together!
Spring Carnival at ScuttleBugs Childcare
What a huge turnout we had this past weekend at our Annual Spring Carnival! We had over 30 of our current families attend, as well as 15 new inquiring families within our local community!
Doing Good Deeds
Earlier in the year ScuttleBugs purchased new naptime linens and blankets for the center, and intended to drop a massive box full to Goodwill. That was until one of our parents made the brilliant suggestion of donating it to an animal shelter instead. This increased the scope of what we could gather, and we were able to scrounge up a significant pile of towels, cushions and stuffed toys that had seen better days – but surely could still be well used and appreciated.
Spring has Sprung
Here at ScuttleBugs, our staff aims to turn not only every moment, but every nook and cranny into an opportunity to play, learn, and grow. More often than not, we see our children thrive on lessons that they can experience first hand, and with subject matter they can relate to. In other words, we believe hands-on learning is not just the best, but really the key, experiential approach from birth through 5 years of age. Every interaction children have with the environment can be a teachable moment with a life-long impact.
ScuttleBugs Eggcellent Easter Eggstravaganza and egg hunt Eggceeds wildest Eggspectations
This past Saturday we had a fabulous turnout for our “Eggtastic” Open House at ScuttleBugs. Even though there were light showers throughout the morning – that didn’t dampen our spirits! Everyone made full use of our enclosed gym and spacious classrooms – there’s so much to eggsplore in new environments and the world around us.

The Solar System Discovered Inside ScuttleBugs
Each week, for the week ahead, we develop our learning process around topics that children are interested in and will engage with. For example Wildlife. Or Dinosaurs. We develop our social, emotional, early math and language and thought concepts while talking about the chosen theme, and create projects that are then explored in our groups’ classrooms.
